Sydney to Goldcoast yacht race on Kioni
My first ocean yacht race was from Sydney to the Goldcoast (Southport) on Kioni with Pacific Sailing School. We didn't do very well in the race but still had a great time. We decided to take the rhumb line and stay close to the coast hoping to stay out of the southerly current expected out further. This also increased the risk that we would get less wind. After the first day and evening we spent a lot of time floating around off the coast wishing for wind. The last few hours of the race we spend drag racing with another yacht which we managed to beat across the line at 1am.
